Careers Guidance at The Mount
Our aims
- To provide students with information, advice, and guidance in respect of sustainable career destinations and opportunities.
- To provide students with independent living skills and community inclusion opportunities
- To help students make informed choices about their future careers (voluntary and paid employment).
How we will implement
- Students will receive impartial face-to-face career guidance from a qualified careers advisor.
- Students will participate in weekly Work and Life skills sessions.
- Students will participate in weekly internal and/or external work experience placements.
- Each student's work experience placement will reflect their individual ability and aspiration to progress them on their path of gaining greater independence and/or obtaining paid/unpaid employment after leaving the College.
- Whenever suitable, the possibility for students to access supported internships or supported employment options after leaving the College is explored.
- Careers are linked into the curriculum across all subjects through many different activities, including industry visits, role-play, scenario learning, guest speakers, and research.
- The PSHE curriculum incorporates work skills learning.
- Life and independent living skills, which include travel training, is taught in Life Skills sessions.
Our intended outcomes
- Students will receive information, advice and guidance in order to make informed decisions about their future career opportunities.
- Students are enabled through a holistic and therapeutic learning approach to make positive personal progression to greater independent living skills.
- Students are enabled to work and live as part of a team and thus minimise barriers they face.
- Students will develop skills necessary to successfully participate in meaningful, relevant voluntary or paid employment.
